Who is the apprenticeship for?

Careers in childcare and education can be challenging, fun and rewarding. You need to be enthusiastic, have plenty of energy and have a solid sense of responsibility.
Your job role may vary, but the most important job you will do is ensuring the welfare and health of the children you care for. You will be involved in playing with children, making sure they stay healthy and happy, and help them to learn new things every day.

What will you learn?

As part of this Early Years Educator apprenticeship, you will learn how to plan and implement inclusive play, promote speech, language and communication development and ensure that everything you do is in line with safeguarding and equality policies and procedures. You will also learn how to use reflective practice to get the most from your own continuous professional development.

How will you learn?

Our Personal Tutors will deliver high-quality face-to-face learning and coaching and provide all the resources you will need to progress quickly. Our intuitive learner management system ‘Bud’ will really bring the subject to life through interactive learning tools, access to complementary online resources and relevant social communities, as well as provide real-time information so that you will always know where you’re at in your learner journey.

This apprenticeship will develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours in the following areas:

  • Patterns of child development
  • Significance of attachment
  • Underpinning theories and philosophical approach to how children develop
  • How external factors and life events affect development
  • Promoting diversity, equality and inclusion, reflecting cultural differences and family circumstances
  • Speech, language and communication
  • Phonics

Skills

  • Analyse and explain how children’s learning and development can be affected by their stage of development and individual circumstances
  • Promote equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Engage in effective strategies to develop and extend children’s learning and thinking
  • Children’s group learning and socialisation
  • Ensure plans fully reflect the stage of development, individual needs and circumstances of children
  • Promote healthy lifestyles

Your pathway to success

The sector is steadily expected to grow with presently around 360,500 staff working in non-maintained childcare settings, and there are over 115,000 staff working in maintained early year’s provision.

FAQs

Do I have to find a job first?

If you’re not currently employed or looking for a new job, you can apply for apprenticeship vacancies advertised by employers looking to employ an apprentice, as you must be employed to undertake an apprenticeship.

If you already have a job and wish to gain a qualification in that industry as an apprentice, this is possible subject to your employer’s agreement.

Will it cost me anything?

No. Your employer pays your wage and we apply for government funding from the Education and Skills Funding Agency to support the cost of your qualification.
Currently 100% funding is available for apprentices ages 16 – 18 and 90% for those aged 19 + (subject to the employers levy status).

Can I undertake an Apprenticeship with my current employer?
