Level 2 Apprenticeship

Who is the apprenticeship for?

The technician requires a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills, and will use a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify & repair simple system faults. You will gain expertise not only in the technical elements of the role but also learn excellent telephone, customer handling and effective sales skills.

This apprenticeship was designed by leaders in the automotive industry including Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes Benz and BMW and will provide you with a fantastic start to your career.

What will you learn?

An Autocare Technician apprenticeship will enable you to carry out a range of services and repairs to cars, car derived vans and light goods vehicles, working in an autocentre, as a part of a large national chain or an independent garage.

How will you learn?

Our Personal Tutors will deliver high-quality face-to-face learning and coaching and provide all the resources you will need to progress quickly. Our intuitive learner management system ‘Bud’ will really bring the subject to life through interactive learning tools, access to complementary online resources and relevant social communities, as well as provide real-time information so that you will always know where you’re at in your learner journey.

This apprenticeship will develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours in the following areas:

Knowledge

  • How to carry out vehicle safety inspections and routine maintenance
  • Fundamentals of specific vehicle systems
  • Steering & suspension, braking systems
  • Battery & charging systems
  • Exhaust systems and Air-Conditioning systems
  • General sales principles
  • Contributing to the business operations

Skills

  • Maintaining a healthy and safe workplace
  • Stock procedures
  • Make recommendations to customers based on the results of inspections
  • Carry out replacement/repair and balancing of tyres
  • Specialist tools & equipment, mechanical & electrical measuring tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Communicate effectively with customers

Becoming an Autocare Technician can open doors to a long and rewarding career. Do I have to find a job first?

If you’re not currently employed or looking for a new job, you can apply for apprenticeship vacancies advertised by employers looking to employ an apprentice, as you must be employed to undertake an apprenticeship.

If you already have a job and wish to gain a qualification in that industry as an apprentice, this is possible subject to your employer’s agreement.

Will it cost me anything?

No. Your employer pays your wage and we apply for government funding from the Education and Skills Funding Agency to support the cost of your qualification.
Currently 100% funding is available for apprentices ages 16 – 18 and 90% for those aged 19 + (subject to the employers levy status).

Can I undertake an Apprenticeship with my current employer?
