Retailing is a dynamic, fast-moving and highly competitive industry, where businesses have to keep pace with ever changing customer needs and new technology.

If you are a good communicator, have a friendly and outgoing nature, like working with people and are looking for a career where no two days are the same, then Retailing could be for you.

A Retail Apprenticeship will give you a wide range of skills on which to build your career.

What will I learn?

Your Apprenticeship will enable you to achieve an NVQ at Level 2 in Retail Operations, gaining skills in:

• Customer service
• Handling and managing stock
• Visual merchandising
• Cash and electronic transactions
• Crime prevention
• Consumer legislation.

You will also gain:

• A Certificate in Retailing Level 2
• Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number
• You will receive training in Health and Safety and how the law applies to you at work.

An Advanced Apprenticeship will enable you to achieve an NVQ Level 3 in Retail Operations with more advanced skills in:

• Managing stock
• Team leading
• Developing your own and others skills in improving customer relations
• Providing specialist support and expert advice to customers.

How will I be trained?

Most of your training will be in your workplace with your employer and you will attend training sessions at a training centre on a regular basis. We will observe you at work where you will carry out most of your assessments, and we will support you with assignments and discussions.

What about the future?

As retail covers everything from food to fashion, there are many options open to you, and your Apprenticeship will give you the skills needed to succeed. It may also provide progression to an Advanced Apprenticeship, which would prepare you for future supervisory or management posts.
