Kyle Reynolds and Steven Huntley from Weymouth are a cut above the rest, thanks to their hairdressing Apprenticeships with Paragon Skills for Industry. Both Kyle and Steven work at ID Hair and Beauty Salon in Dorchester while completing their Apprenticeships in hairdressing. Their Apprenticeships combine both theoretical learning and hands-on training in the salon. Kyle, 21, said: “I’ve been working at ID Hair and Beauty Salon for over a year and this training programme has been an excellent opportunity for me to build on my skills. In the salon our job includes everything from cleaning the floor, managing reception to washing and cutting hair. “The Apprenticeship covers all aspects of hairdressing, from cutting, colouring and styling to reception duties, customer care and product sales. There is more to hairdressing than meets the eye which is reflected by this Apprenticeship. “I have completed the level 2 in hairdressing and am currently doing my level 3. Most of the practical training and assessments take place in the salon and I also regularly attend training sessions at a training centre.” The courses are delivered in fully fitted training salons in Weymouth and Bournemouth and are supplemented with on site visits at the employer’s premises. “We have an individual advisor who supports us with the assignments and exams and is always there to give advice. We also get a lot of support from the other staff in the salon where we all receive additional training. The hairdressing industry is always changing, so we all continue to receive up-to-date training, regardless of how long someone may have been in the industry.” “I have really enjoyed my Apprenticeship with Paragon Skills and would recommend it to anyone interested in hairdressing. This is a great industry to work in and being in the salon and having the support from the assessors has allowed me to really develop my skills and confidence.
